Laser Hair Removal Preparation

Pre-Care Checklist for Laser Hair Removal

Preparing your skin correctly before your laser hair removal appointment is an important part of achieving safe, comfortable, and effective results. At Revise Laser, we want to ensure your treatment is carried out safely while helping you achieve the best possible long-term hair reduction.

Please follow the preparation guidelines below before your appointment.

3 Weeks Before Your Appointment

To allow the laser to effectively target the hair follicle, avoid any hair removal methods that remove the hair from the root, including:

  • Waxing.
  • Tweezing.
  • Epilating.

Shaving is the only recommended method of hair removal between treatments.

1–2 Weeks Before Your Appointment

Avoid exposing the treatment area to UV light for at least 7 days before your appointment. This includes:

  • Sunbathing.
  • Sunbeds.
  • Excessive sun exposure.

If the treatment area is exposed to sunlight, apply a high-factor SPF to protect the skin.

If fake tan is present on the area being treated, your appointment may need to be rescheduled, and the full treatment cost may still apply.

If you have sunburn on the treatment area, you must wait at least 2 weeks before treatment. Treating sunburned skin can increase the risk of irritation or skin damage.

Skincare & Treatments Before Your Appointment

Avoid using products that may sensitise the skin before treatment, including:

  • Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs).
  • Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs).
  • Retinol or retinoid products.
  • Hydroquinone.
  • Tazorac or Differin.

If you are having facial laser hair removal, stop using these products at least 7 days before your appointment.

Avoid chemical peels and other laser treatments on the area being treated for 2 weeks before and after your laser hair removal session.

If you have had Botox or dermal fillers in the treatment area, allow at least 14 days before and after injections before receiving laser hair removal.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Please arrive with freshly cleansed skin. The treatment area must be completely clean and free from:

  • Lotions.
  • Oils.
  • Creams.
  • Deodorant.
  • Perfumes or fragrances.

The treatment area should be shaved as closely as possible before your appointment. This allows the laser energy to target the hair follicle effectively while reducing discomfort. Any remaining stubble can increase heat on the skin’s surface and may affect treatment comfort and results.

For intimate areas, such as Hollywood laser hair removal, using a mirror can help ensure all areas are shaved thoroughly before your appointment.

On the Day of Your Laser Hair Removal Appointment

Avoid activities that increase body temperature or blood pressure, such as intense exercise, for at least 2 hours before and after your treatment.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area and avoids unnecessary friction after your session.

Important: Please Inform Us If Any of the Following Apply

Please let Revise Laser know before your appointment if:

  • You have recently had Botox or dermal fillers in the treatment area.
  • You are using prescription skincare products or medications that may affect your skin’s response.
  • You have any skin conditions, irritation, or sun exposure affecting the treatment area.
  • You have recently had sunburn or used tanning products.
