Laser Hair Removal Aftercare Guide – How to Care for Your Skin After Treatment
Proper aftercare is an important part of the laser hair removal process. Following the recommended aftercare steps helps support healthy skin, minimise irritation, and allows your treatment to work effectively between sessions.
At Revise Laser, we provide personalised aftercare guidance during your consultation and throughout your treatment journey, based on your skin type, hair characteristics, and treatment area. Below is a general guide on what to expect and how to care for your skin after laser hair removal.
Immediately After (First 24–48 Hours)
Immediately after your treatment, the skin may appear slightly red, feel warm, or have mild sensitivity. This is a normal response as the laser has targeted the hair follicles.
To support your skin’s recovery:
- Avoid intense exercise, gym sessions, and fitness classes for 24–48 hours.
- Avoid heat treatments including hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, hot showers, and Bikram yoga.
- Avoid swimming, especially in chlorinated water.
- Do not use creams containing bleach, steroids, or harsh active ingredients.
- Avoid exfoliating, peels, or abrasive skincare products.
- Apply a high-factor SPF and protect the treated area from direct sun exposure.
- Avoid shaving immediately after treatment unless advised.

Ongoing Aftercare (Days 2–14)
During this period, the treated hairs will begin to shed naturally as the follicle responds to the laser energy. The targeted hairs usually shed around 14 days after treatment, although this can happen sooner for some clients.
You may notice hairs falling out naturally in your clothing or during showering. Once shedding begins, you can gently remove loose hairs using a soft exfoliating glove if required. The hairs should come away easily without resistance.
To achieve the best results:
- Avoid waxing, plucking, threading, or depilatory creams, as these remove the hair from the follicle and can disrupt your treatment cycle.
- Avoid sunbeds and limit UV exposure.
- Continue protecting your skin with SPF.
- Keep the skin moisturised and avoid products that may cause irritation.
If you notice that your hair is not shedding after treatment, please contact Revise Laser so we can review your response and adjust your treatment plan if needed.
Preparing for Your Next Session (6+ Weeks)
Preparation before your next appointment is essential for achieving the best possible results.
Before your next session:
- Use SPF 30+ daily and limit sun exposure.
- Keep your skin moisturised to maintain a healthy skin barrier.
- Exfoliate gently several times per week to help prevent ingrown hairs and maintain smooth skin.
- Avoid waxing, plucking, threading, or depilatory creams between sessions.
Once you have completed the shedding phase and the treated hairs have fallen out, you may resume shaving if required. However, allowing the hair to grow naturally before your next appointment, where possible, can help you monitor your results and allows us to assess your progress during your treatment journey.
