Laser Tattoo Removal Aftercare Guide – How to Care for Your Skin After Treatment
Proper aftercare is an essential part of the Laser Tattoo Removal process. Following the recommended aftercare steps not only supports healthy healing but also helps minimise the risk of infection, scarring, and other unwanted side effects. It also ensures you achieve the best possible results from each treatment session.
At Revise Laser, we’ll provide you with personalised aftercare guidance during your consultation, based on your tattoo’s size, location, and your skin type. In the meantime, here’s a general overview of what to expect and how to look after your skin post-treatment.
What to Do Immediately After Laser Tattoo Removal (First 24–48 Hours)
In the first day or two after your laser tattoo removal session, it’s important to keep the treated area clean, cool, and protected. You can apply a cold compress to help reduce swelling and soothe discomfort—but be sure never to place ice directly on the skin. Aloe vera gel may also be used sparingly to calm the area.
Gently cleanse the area with a mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water. Once clean, pat the area dry using a soft towel—do not rub or scrub. After drying, cover the area with a sterile, non-stick bandage to protect it from friction and external bacteria.
Avoid exposing the area to excessive heat or pressure. This includes skipping hot showers, saunas, and strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours. Additionally, avoid wearing tight or abrasive clothing that may irritate the treated area.

Ongoing Aftercare in the Days Following Tattoo Removal (1–2 Weeks)
As your skin continues to heal, it is important to maintain a gentle and consistent aftercare routine. Keep the area moisturised using a healing ointment recommended by Revise Laser. This helps support the skin in recovery and prevents dryness or cracking.
It’s essential that you do not pick at scabs, blisters, or peeling skin. Let these heal naturally, as interfering with the process can lead to infection or permanent scarring.
During this time, protect the treated area from sunlight. Keep the area fully covered with clothing when outside. Once the skin has healed, you may begin applying a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen to maintain protection and prevent pigmentation changes.
You should also avoid submerging the treated area in water. This means no swimming pools, baths, or hot tubs. Keep shower short and avoid letting water hit the treated area directly.
To avoid irritation, wear loose-fitting, breathable clothing that won’t rub against the healing skin.
Long-Term Tattoo Removal Aftercare Tips
Supporting your body's overall health can significantly improve your skin's ability to heal and respond to treatment. Make sure to stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water and eat a balanced diet to aid tissue repair.
Sleep is vital for healing, so aim to get enough rest following your sessions. You should also avoid smoking and alcohol, as both can impair the immune system and slow the breakdown of ink particles in the skin.
Lastly, attend all follow-up appointments as recommended. Revise Laser may adjust your treatment plan depending on how your skin is responding, so it's important to stay on track with your sessions for optimal results.
